Weekend Wrapup

This weekend was perfect. We laid around and did what we wanted. On Friday afternoon we went to Rojo to celebrate Will's last medical school class EVER. It was pretty great. I know he is so relieved to be done. I can't believe I didn't take a picture. I was disappointed when I thought about it later that evening. After our happy hour celebration we headed to UAB to cheer Mikey on in a 5K race. The weather was perfect. They had a band playing and one girl even puked when she finished. What says racing like vomit?

Mikey's fan club.

He won fastest male in his age group. Yeah!!!

On Saturday we woke up before Vivi which I don't think has ever happened. We laid in bed and read a little. She woke up and we strolled into the kitchen for breakfast. The rest of the day we did very little; we didn't make it out of our pajamas until about 3. We read a little Harry Potter, napped while Viola was taking a snooze, and made lunch.

After such a relaxing morning and early afternoon we headed to the Art Festival downtown. There were a lot of talented artists, dance performances, and musical talent. It was a great end to the day.

On Sunday morning we decided to make homemade cinnamon and raisin biscuits. They were delicious. I can't really take credit Will was the one who made these happen I just handed him a few ingredients.

The rest of the day looked a bit like the day before except it rained all day and made being inside even better.

We have been having a hard time getting Vivi to eat veggies. I asked several friends what they did with their children and they all had different answers. However, the one thing they all said was vegetables are hard. One of those friends told me she makes smoothies for her son. She combines vegetables and fruits and he loves them. I was willing to give it a try. It worked!

Strawberry, Banana, and Beet Smoothie is our 1st attempt.

Aren't beets pretty inside.

We roasted the beets which was my first time ever touching a beet.

Then I blended everything else together. I added yogurt and whole milk.
It made so much I froze the rest. She likes them as a slushy too.
We spoon fed it to her but you can also put it in a sippy cup.

Around Here

Hello There!!! I haven't made a ton of time for blogging lately. To be honest I kinda lost my drive. I would take my camera places with me and think do people really care that I am at a farmer's market? I'm not too sure that I care I am at a farmer's market. Although I wax and wane I push on. Here is an update of the last few weeks.

Two weekends ago we headed to New Orleans to  look for housing. We got there early afternoon on Friday and decided to headed down to the French Quarter for the French Quarter Festival. It is said that New Orleans loves their festivals which is fine by me. We got a seat on the balcony and enjoyed a crab appetizer. After that we strolled the streets and took in all the music and street performances.

The people.

Crab cheesecake

This man loves Michael Jackson and is an amazing dancer.

On Saturday we enjoyed sleeping in and walking to a local breakfast spot before meeting the realtor.

His way of doing business was a little different .
The realtor drove us all over New Orleans. We felt more confused than ever where we should live. We came to the conclusion that we are better off renting until we can get a better idea of the city and where we want to be. We stopped off at Mid City Park to continue our Harry Potter obsession.

We got home on Sunday and refueled for the week.

This past weekend we headed to Tupelo, Mississippi for a wedding. Jonathan and Sara Beth were attending the same wedding and invited us to stay with them at their parent's house in New Albany. The weather was perfect. The guys fished, we walked around, sat on the porch, and went for a boat ride.

Almost all these photos were captured by Sara Beth. She was trying out a new camera lens and we got to be her subjects. There were so many more pictures, but I decided 50 pictures would be excessive.

Love this one.

We clean up pretty nicely huh?

The bride and groom.

We headed back on Sunday afternoon and went straight to the Earth Day festival at Avondale Brewery. We have been to this celebration the last four years and have loved it, but this year it was different. It used to be in the park where you could come and go and there was no admission. You could spread out and enjoy the music. It felt too commericalized this year. I don't always like bigger and better. {End soap box}

We met our lovely friend Claire and enjoyed the sun and music. Needless to say I was pretty tired after we settled in on Sunday evening, but mostly because I am pregnant!!! What!!! Yep it is true. We are expecting baby #2 October 24th.

Weekend Wrapup

Will was in Huntsville on a rotation the whole month of March so I have been checked out of blog world. I have been relieved to have him back along with the help he offers and to be able to get some much needed time for myself. This month is his last month and then he is finished. He is beyond excited.

This month's rotations are pretty light so we have been taking trips to the park and icee pit stops. We ventured down to railroad park to partake in a sunbath while reading our latest favorite. We  enjoy reading out loud to each other and with a bit of hesitation we decided to hop the Harry Potter train. We are obsessed.

We had a relaxing evening at home putting the little one to bed while struggling to stay up to a reasonable hour. Saturday morning we went and watched my neice Meg play softball. She was adorable. All the kids looking like life size bobble heads. My brother is helping coach and seems to be having a great time.

After her game we headed to Atlanta with the Cobb's to see baby girl Lumpkin. Our friends just gave birth to their first child last week so we were dying to meet her. Her name is Emerson Marie and they will call her Emmy. She was so sweet and so tiny.

Is this picture better ladies?
Vivi also couldn't wait to get her hands on her.
We headed back Saturday night. On Sunday we relaxed and enjoyed some down time. That afternoon we headed to Holly's soccer game. She is the one on the far right.

We ended the day sitting outside. Will planted a cilantro plant and Vivi ate dirt.
It was a pretty great weekend if I have to say so myself.

New Orleans here we come!!!

This past weekend was very exciting because we finally found out where we will be for Will's residency. We were so excited we started celebrating on Thursday.

I found this recipe in one of the Hannon's cookbooks.
Grapefruit and mint soda.
Friday morning we headed to the conference center and waited anxiously as they called the students up 3 by 3. I hadn't planned on going onstage, but decided I wanted to be there when he opened the envelope for the first time. We slipped behind the stage and Will handed me the envelope while he held Vivi. I opened it and it read Congratulation you matched at Ochsner. We both smiled and breathed a sigh of relief.

Vivi and I walked onstage as Will read out where we were going.
Afterwards we headed to Matt and Mimi's house to eat lunch and celebrate with family. His whole family came up from Troy to watch the ceremony. My mom was also able to be there.

Vivi spending some time with her granna.
Ms. Ann is teaching her a nursery rhyme.

A little mingling in the sun.

I woke up on Saturday and I wanted beignets, but the dough needed to chill for 24 hours so we went with doughnuts.

We had to get creative with our cutters.
Don't you just love a doughnut hole?
I know a lot of grease, but we were celebrating.

Nutella, sprinkles, powdered, and nutella with chocolate sprinkles.

Sadly Will is in Huntsville most of the month so he headed back Saturday afternoon. On Sunday Mom, Vivi, and I headed to Railroad Park.
We had a picnic.

We introduced Mimi to Steel City Pops.
Later that afternoon I attended a baptism in our church's garden while mom watched Vivi for me. It was perfect weather and a very sweet ceremony.

I had to add this one.

This weekend was packed with lots of celebrating. I will give you a quick rundown. This past week Will turned 30. We saved his celebration until the weekend. I had a day full of his favorite activities planned followed by an evening of making one of his dreams come true (not that). Will and I have this funny saying "When our ship comes in." Whenever we have conversations about things that would be nice to have one day we tell the other one to put it on the ship. One of Will's dreams was to have a bar at home. For his birthday this year I had his friends bring him a bottle of liquor to make this dream a reality.

The day started off with a wonderful breakfast at the Ver Hoef's. They fixed homemade wheat waffles topped with whip cream and strawberries.

They were so yummy!
After breakfast we went and celebrated Mikey's birthday with a second breakfast. He and Will have the same birthday but Mikey is a few hours older. He doesn't often let Will forget that. After that we had a nap and did a little reading until the adventures continued.

Off next to Ruffner Mountain to meet Jaime and Clark Powell for a hike. Jaime's sister, Casey, was in town so she joined us too.

Our little hiker.
The whole gang
After our hike I dropped Will off to meet his next surprise guest. It was his friend Jonathan who was waiting at Good People brewery. Then after that we headed to dinner with the Hannon's at The Little Donkey.

Then over to Parkside where his friends were waiting  to celebrate. Everyone brought a bottle of liquor for the home bar and we spent the rest of the evening mingling and dodging the smoke from the fire pit. Thank you to everyone who was able to celebrate this exciting time as Will hit the big 3-0.

Lovely ladies.
What birthday would be complete without cupcakes? These are not just any cupcakes but Settlers of Catan cupcakes.
Tamales for brick, marshmallows for sheep, oreo's for ore, tootsie rolls for wood, and shredded wheat for wheat.

On Sunday it was upper 60's here and it was so nice to have the sun beaming on our faces. We went to the park along with most everyone else who was glad to see the warmer weather.

On Monday Will had to be at the school to find out if he matched into a residency program. We went to check his email and there those words were : Congratulations! You have matched! We were beyond excited. Only a few more days and we will find out exactly where we will be.

I hope everyone had a great weekend wherever you were and whatever you did.
