IKEA Explorations

Will and I have been slowly decorating our apartment these last couple of months. I have been trying to make a lot of our house decor. We got to go to IKEA last weekend in Atlanta which can be an overwhelming ordeal at times. After weaving through all the display rooms and dodging people we managed to finish in record time. Much to our excitement there were cinnamon rolls waiting for us at the finish line.  Along with 2 hotdogs, chips, and a drink for $2 (we were hungry,it had been a stressful shopping rampage).  I found a great rug for twenty bucks but when i got home i decided it was missing something.  Side Note:The draw back about a place like IKEA is everything is mass produced so i was left feeling like a number had been stamped on my forehead and i had been placed neatly in a box.  I decided to give our new rug a little spice. I sewed buttons to some of the flowers and it gave it a nice artistic feel. I love taking something great and adding a piece of me.

Crafting with Claire

 I saw this wreath how to on  Julia Black's blog a couple of weeks ago and have been wanting to make one. A friend named Claire came to and play too. We ended up with a few glue gun burns, facts from the Guinness Book of World Records, and a fabulous picture of Boyz II Men.

Free landscape "rocks", "boulders", or whatever you want to call them. I have maybe around 100 or more of this size in my yard. I am starting to revamp my "yard" and these things are defintely not in the plan. Only catch is, you come get them !

Marital Spat Ball Pit (Alabaster)
He thinks it's garbage. I think a little duct tape would go a long way for this jewel. It is a Disney Princess ball pit, VERY RARE! It is round with an open top, beautiful tower walls, and a spiral ball thing (you put the balls in at the top and they spin down. You know? like a fancy gum ball machine. It would be perfect for any special little girl that you really don't want to spend money on. I am also including a garbage bag full of balls. You can pick up at 736 12th ST NW in Alabaster in the Apache Ridge Subdivision. Please do it soon before it causes any more arguments. PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL ME ABOUT THIS BECAUSE I DON'T LIKE COMPUTER VIRUSES. THANKS Please do not pick up tonight, the balls are in the storage shed and I just can't get to them right now!

The Artist's Way Part 1

So blogging is a bit more time consuming than I thought. I started this blog as a way to track my progress through The Artist's Way (a book I am reading). This particular book is used to help a person begin to discover their creative side.  Every morning you write for 15 minutes and then once a week you have an artist date. An artist date is where you make something or go somewhere that stirs your creativity. You don't have to spend a lot of money you can use stuff around the house or simply draw something.  You can visit art galleries or a craft store. There is no limit to where you can go or what you can do.  The only rule is that you have to do your artist date by yourself.  I have made several things in the last couple of weeks and I wanted to share them with you.

The Click of the Heel

Will and I have recently been attending a Methodist church in Southside. One of the associate pastors is a female.  I often find myself wondering what it must have been like to answer the call of being a pastor.  She preached this past Sunday and it was the first time I had ever heard her.  Early church is held in the chapel which is small and has stony tile flooring.  As she was preaching my ear kept being drawn to the noise of her high heel.  It was the most foreign glorious sound I have heard in church in a really long time. I smiled to myself thinking I have never heard a high heel from the pulpit. Later when church was over I asked Will if he had noticed her high heel and he replied no. He hadn’t even noticed.  I found it so exciting to be a woman in that moment simply because it was a sound that I identify as uniquely feminine coming from a place that has been distinctly masculine.  I was filled with a sense of hope at the thought of there being more of a balanced voice in the church…both male and female.

Fall Delights

I love all the fall colors.

  The cool nip of the morning tells me that fall is upon us.  It is the perfect time to walk around outside with a light sweater and a pumpkin spice latte. All the trees are changing colors and pumpkins are everywhere. Football enthusiasts are busy defending the honor of their teams; with each school represented across their chests or all over their car.  It is the perfect time to snuggle on the couch with a book and big bowl of soup. I hope you enjoy your fall traditions whatever they may be.
