Bookbinding- How it works

I finally made Vivi's baby book! I am so excited. I have been talking about this book for I don't know how long. It was really easy and didn't take hardly anytime at all. I will do my best to walk you through the process I used. 

I tied my strings to the top screws and ran them through the base to the bottom screws

Using the strings I marked where I needed to make holes.

I sawed my marks just enough so I could tell where to sew.

I used my awl to make the holes.

I thread my waxed string in the hole.I ran the needle around the red string and back through the same hole.

I did this all the way down and then added another page.

I cut the different color strings and tied the ends together.

I taped it for extra support and then glued it into my book.

Pumpkin Love

I love the fall because of all the different foods and spices that come with this time of year. I have decided to make a different pumpkin treat/dishes weekly until the end of November. I have started with a pumpkin coffee cake which you may remember from this post. Here are a few of the ones we will be trying: pumpkin cookies, pumpkin chili, pumpkin funnel cakes, and pumpkin cinnamon muffins. 

Weekend Wrapup-Interview Style

This past weekend was busy. Will and I headed to Jacksonville Florida for his first interview. We had dinner with all the residents on that Thursday evening and Friday was his big interview day. While he interviewed my job was to explore the city. I made it to several neighborhoods, stopped at the beach, and had lunch in the park. I think I got the best part of that deal. We started back Friday evening and found ourselves sitting in traffic for 2 hours waiting on a wreck to clear. When we finally were able to move we counted 21 cars in the wreck. So crazy, hopefully there weren't any fatalities. We finally arrived home at 1am, but not before stopping at Krispy Kreme. We felt we needed a reward for being on the road so long.

On Saturday Will got up with Vivi and let me sleep in which I did until 11am...what a sweet man. It was raining here so we took it easy and enjoyed a lazy afternoon. That evening we headed to the Troxler/Fitz wedding to celebrate.

Sunday was filled with preparing for the week ahead. When Will leaves for the week we fix food for him to eat on all week. This week we fixed vegetarian lasagna, soup, a ham, and banana nut bread. Before we could do that we had to go to the grocery store which is a nightmare on Sundays because everyone is there. The rest of the day we rested. Will wanted to fix fried green tomatoes since we had some in the garden. I had never had them before. I have to say he did a great job they were delicious.

He used flour, corn meal, egg, milk, and bread crumbs.

Handkerchief

On my wedding day only moments before I walked down the aisle I remembered I didn't have my something borrowed. Will's sister Mimi immediately offered her ring. I thought it was so sweet. Now it is my turn to give her something for her wedding day. I stitched this handkerchief with her wedding date so she would have something blue. I was really pleased with how it turned out and she seemed to like it too.

Bookbinding Jig

One of the things that I wanted for my birthday was a bookbinding jig. When I was pregnant I looked all over for a baby book and I couldn't find one I liked. I decided that I would make one {here is the beginning of this project}. I had a friend in graduate school who showed me how to bind books so I was already a little familiar. My sweet and handy brother created a jig for me after watching a you tube video. He taught me some carpentry basis as I documented with photos. Thanks again Chad.

Weekend Wrap up- Welcome Fall Welcome

This past weekend was a world wind. Will is still on his rural rotation which means he is gone during the week and home for the weekend. When he got in on Friday we headed to the Greek Orthodox church for their food festival. We met Charlie (and his parents) who is one of Vivi's friends from lactation group. We all sampled a smattering of the food and let me tell you it was delicious.

On Saturday afternoon we kept my nieces so their parents could go to the Alabama game. We went to Railroad park, made pizza, had craft time, and performed an experiment with soap. By the exhaustion on their faces that night I would say they had a good time.

I know fall officially started on the 22nd of September, but I have not been in the fall mood. The reason being is because it is still pretty hot here. The weather dipped into the 80s this past week so I decided it was time to kick off some fall traditions.

We bought a variety pack of fall beers.

Sunday morning we made a pumpkin coffee cake.
