Weekend Wrapup- Bachelorette Style

This weekend I headed to Gulf Shores to celebrate Mimi (my sister in law) and her upcoming marriage. We ate lots of junk food, watch movies, danced, played games, and laughed.  It was a great weekend and I hope she felt loved and celebrated.

Morgan made the bra cupcake toppers
and underwear cupcake toppers. So creative.

Mimi was given her crown and sash to wear as she opened gifts.

Kristen and I read a panty poem and gave Mimi different underwear to last her through every season of life

Her dad and grandmother even sent a gift.

All her goodies.
What weekend would be completed without a photo scavenger hunt?

That evening we headed to The Hangout for a little Halloween fun.

The Williams Ladies.
While I was enjoying a girl's weekend Will was at home with Vivi having a good time. Vivi went to her first birthday party. I wished I could have been there to be a part of the farm fun.

Pumpkin Carving

I love the fall because it is packed with so many holidays and fun activities. The weather is cooler which in the south is something you start dreaming about in May. You get to pull out slightly warmer clothes, drink spiced beverages and watch the leaves change.

This past week we finally got around to carving our pumpkin patch pumpkins. As a kid this was not a tradition that I remember doing every year, but one I really loved. Since having Vivi and really before I want to mark each season with certain traditions.

As a house we gathered all our materials and convened at the kitchen table to get started.  While  we carved away I toasted the pumpkin seeds so we would have a snack while we worked.

This is my favorite part, digging out the seeds.

We made cajun spiced seeds and sweet cinnamon seeds.

Tadah!! The one on the left is the monical monastic (our house name) and the other one is Vivi as a pumpkin.

Weekend Wrapup-1st Beach Trip

This past weekend we got to go to the beach. It was Vivi's first time to see the ocean and play in the sand.  It was BEAUTIFUL. There was not a cloud in the sky. The water was an amazing blue color. There was a cool breeze the whole time. I mean perfect. Not only was the weather wonderful so was the company. We met two other couples from Birmingham and Atlanta. Good conversation. Good food. You really can't beat a weekend like this one.

Vivi liked playing in the sand and watching the waves.

Weekend Wrapup- Pumpkin Patch

This weekend was pretty relaxed which is what we needed since our whole house had been sick. Saturday morning we headed to the pumpkin patch. Will and I did this with my nieces two years ago and had a great time. We went to Hayden, Alabama this year to get our pumpkin. We enjoyed a hayride, watched some kids dance, and took a few photos.

House photo.

The perfect pumpkin.

Will is giving Vivi tips on picking her pumpkin.

We thought we found the perfect one but wanted to look a little more.

The stem is the best part.

Happy Friday

I don't think I could have said it better myself. This week has been THE PITS. We have all had a stomach bug. Not just any stomach bug but one of those clingy ones that just won't leave. I don't know what they are putting in stomach bugs these days, but that is one of the worst I have ever had. (like that I made myself sound 80 years old?) Hope everyone has a great weekend. I hope to make it to the pumpkin patch. I love this time of year.

The Interview Trail

We are at the beginning of our journey to see where we will be next year. Will started the interview season this past weekend and it will continue most likely until January. We are excited. There is really only so much that a person can do. He applies to the programs that he thinks would be a good fit and then we visit. If the interview is not drivable then he has to go it alone. I trust him. He knows me well enough to know what kinds of place I could live in.

After the interview season we wait..and wait. In March is when we will open an envelope that tells us where we are to live for the next four years. I think that day will be a little nerve racking. The process is often compared to sorority rush. He puts his top choices down and then the programs put their top choices down and then they match up the picks.

I will do my best to keep you updated along the way.

Bookbinding- How it works

I finally made Vivi's baby book! I am so excited. I have been talking about this book for I don't know how long. It was really easy and didn't take hardly anytime at all. I will do my best to walk you through the process I used.

I tied my strings to the top screws and ran them through the base to the bottom screws.

Using the strings I marked where I needed to make holes.

I sawed my marks just enough so I could tell where to sew.

I used my awl to make the holes.

I thread my waxed string in the hole.I ran the needle around the red string and back through the same hole.

I did this all the way down and then added another page.

I cut the different color strings and tied the ends together.

I taped it for extra support and then glued it into my book.
